Chelation Therapy

What is Chelation?

Chelation is a safe and effective detoxification therapy used to remove heavy metals from your body. It consists of an intravenous injection of the amino acid EDTA (ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid) into your bloodstream with a small needle. The EDTA binds with toxic metals such as lead and cadmium and is quickly excreted in your urine by your kidneys. The sole purpose of the EDTA is to bind heavy metals and remove them from your body. Toxic metal accumulation creates a significant health risk and is linked to heart disease and cancer.

How well does it work?

Chelation has been used successfully for the past 60 years to treat circulatory problems. Over two million patients have undergone chelation therapy for the treatment of heart disease and other circulatory conditions. A 1993 review of studies involving over 25,000 patients who underwent chelation therapy demonstrated that 87 percent benefited.

chelation_therapyTreatment Administration

The typical treatment in our office is a chelation push that takes approximately 15 minutes to administer. Even if you don’t like needles, you’ll find the chelation push to be a workable treatment because the needle used is very small and the infusion is quick and practically painless. Longer intravenous treatments of 1½ and 3 hours are also used, depending upon your condition. A series of 20-30 treatments is recommended for best results. With each treatment it’s like removing one brick from a box of bricks. The goal is to get all the bricks out of the box. Treatments are typically done a couple of times per month. Some individuals do them every week, while others do them as time permits. For a number of patients, however, their health condition necessitates they empty their box as soon as possible.

Combination Therapy

If you really dislike needles, chelation is also available using oral medicines and rectal suppositories. These medicines are useful for individuals who have difficulty with intravenous therapy, or who are unable to travel to the centre. If you have immediate health concerns, oral chelation medicines and suppositories are often used in conjunction with intravenous injections to boost detoxification.
