Back Pain

If you have low back pain, you are not alone. Nearly everyone experiences back pain that interferes with daily living at work, home or play. Thirty-five per cent of all days taken off from work are for back pain. Men and women are affected equally, most often between the ages of 30 and 50.

Why you hurt

Your spinal column is made up of many components. There are the bones (vertebrae) that are separated by round spongy pads of cartilage called discs. These discs act like shock absorbers throughout the spine to cushion your body as you move. Tendons, ligaments and muscles help to hold the bones in alignment. If any of these physical pieces are strained, swollen or broken, you get pain.

Trauma causes back painpain

Back pain arising from some type of trauma, no matter how trivial, is very common. Simple things like bending, lifting and twisting, or daily activities like yard or housework, are sufficient to cause pain. Sports-related injuries or the jolt from a vehicle accident (even low speed) can all lead to stress on spinal bones and related tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments). Other causes include degeneration due to arthritis, osteoporosis or other bone disease, and congenital anomalies of the spine such as scoliosis. Additional factors include obesity, smoking, stress, toxicity, poor physical condition, poor diet, bad posture, poor ergonomics and poor sleeping positions. Scar tissue resulting from previous injury does not have the strength or flexibility of normal tissue. This weakens the back resulting in greater injury. As you age your bone density and muscle elasticity and tone decrease. Your discs gradually become dehydrated and less flexible, impairing their ability to cushion the vertebrae.

Laser Therapy

Billions of photons of light from a medical laser penetrate deep into tissue structures where they are turned into chemical energy used to heal injured tissues. Laser therapy decreases inflammation and pain, and increases tissue regeneration and healing. Treatment is non-invasive, safe and painless. With over 90% success rate by itself, it is an effective option for long-term relief from chronic or acute conditions.

Acupuncture and Injection Therapy

Dr. Denise De Monte provides acupuncture and injection therapy. She inserts tiny needles at acupuncture points to stimulate your nervous system to release chemicals in your muscles, spinal cord and brain. These chemicals change how you experience pain and trigger the release of hormones and neurotransmitters that balance body chemistry and improve energy. Injection therapy uses special German natural medicines that are the best described as the natural equivalent to cortisone steroid injections. They are given specifically over the joints or into muscles. The needles are very small and even if you don’t like needles, you’ll want these injections because they are very effective at relieving pain and healing injuries.

Relief is Available

Pain is your body’s warning signal to you that there is a problem. You need a complete evaluation of the problem to determine the cause and treatment required, and to prevent more serious conditions from developing.
