Sinusitis

Your sinuses are a collection of cavities (hollow spaces) in your head located around your eyes, nose and cheeks. They regularly produce mucous that drains out through very small openings. When the sinus membranes become infected or inflamed, this blocks the drainage of fluid into the throat and nose. The mucous builds up causing pain and pressure. Sinusitis is the infection of these compartments. It’s quite common, affecting 10% of the population. Often the aftermath of a cold or an allergy, bacteria and fungus gain a foot hold causing more inflammation and pain. Symptoms of chronic sinusitis can include nasal congestion and thick yellowish-green discharge, headache, reduced or loss of sense of smell, bad breath, fatigue, facial pain and a persistent cough.

sinusitisIdentify the Triggers

There are many airborne irritants that cause sinusitis. These include cigarette smoke, allergens and pollution. Allergy testing reveals the substances that you must try to avoid. The likelihood is high that you are also sensitive to foods. Allergies to food increase the burden on your body, lowering your immune system and making you more susceptible to illness and infection, including sinusitis. Acute sinusitis often develops immediately after a cold, so keeping your immune system strong and healthy is imperative.

Flush Your Sinuses

One of the most effective ways to drain mucous is to rinse your sinuses with salt water using a neti pot. Also called nasal irrigation, this procedure can reduce symptoms in more than two thirds of sufferers. Nasal sprays and oral natural medicines are used to clear the infection. Immune system support and dietary restriction of inflammatory foods are beneficial. In some cases, the intravenous injection of powerful infection fighting natural medicines such as hydrogen peroxide and vitamin C is warranted. They can kill the infection and shrink the swollen tissues.

Laser Light Kills Bacteria

Laser therapy over the affected sinuses speeds recovery time. Light from the laser directly kills the bacteria. It reaches deep into the cells of the sinuses where it is converted into chemical energy that heals the infection. Laser therapy is completely painless. Two treatments per week for a few weeks is usually enough to make a huge impact on your symptoms.

Strong Link to Candida

A yeast infection (candida) often accompanies sinusitis. It further impairs your immune system and your body’s ability to fight off and stop the infection from spreading. Treatment for candida and sinusitis, therefore, usually goes hand in hand. This includes boosting your weakened immune system to prevent further infection, and yeast killing treatments.

Stop the Pain

Sinus troubles can be a thing of the past. Treatment options are targeted at killing the infection, reducing the inflammation and boosting your defenses.  You can alleviate the blinding pain of sinusitis and gain long lasting relief.
