Acupuncture
What is it?
Acupuncture is a technique of carefully inserting needles at very specific points on your body for pain relief and to improve other health conditions.
How does acupuncture work?
Channels of energy called meridians flow in regular patterns like rivers throughout your body nourishing tissues with energy. When there is an obstruction in the flow of energy, it is comparable to building a dam across a river that stops the flow of water. This interference with energy flow leads to illness. Needles are inserted to unblock the obstructions and re-establish the regular flow through the meridians. A more scientific explanation is that acupuncture points stimulate the nervous system to release chemicals in your muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These chemicals change how you experience pain and trigger the release of hormones and neurotransmitters that balance body chemistry and improve energy.
What does it help?
While acupuncture is often associated with pain control and resolving physical problems related to tension, stress and emotional conditions, it has much broader applications. The following conditions benefit from acupuncture:
Asthma - Asthma
- Bronchitis
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Frozen Shoulder
- Gastritis
- Headaches
- Infertility
- Irritable Bowel
- Knee Pain
- Neck Pain
- Sciatica
- Sinusitis
- Sprains/Strains
- Frozen Shoulder
- Tendonitis
- Tennis/Golfer's Elbow
- Urinary problems
Do the needles hurt?
Most people feel only minimal discomfort as the needles are inserted and some feel nothing at all. Frequently, a tingling sensation or warm feeling may be experienced. The needles are very thin, stainless steel and disposable.
Does acupuncture really work?
In the past 2,000 years, more people have been successfully treated with acupuncture than with all other health treatments combined. There are many scientific studies that have confirmed the effectiveness. Acupuncture is even used successfully on cats, dogs, horses and other animals.
Don’t like needles?
So you want the benefits of acupuncture but you don’t like needles no matter how tiny they are. Laser acupuncture is a great option. A hand held laser is placed over the acupuncture points allowing a small beam of light to stimulate the area. There is no discomfort whatsoever.
