Allergy & Sensitivity Testing
What is Electro-Dermal Screening?
EDS is a non-invasive, bio-energetic evaluation used to determine stressors and the effects they have on your body. It’s a pain-free test that doesn’t use needles. You hold a hand electrode and the tester touches a probe to an acupuncture point on your toe or finger. This completes a circuit with a meter. The skin resistance at the acupuncture point is measured by producing a slight potential difference (voltage) between the tip of the probe at the acupuncture point and hand held electrode.
Where does it come from?
It was developed in Germany by a number of physicians, dentists and scientists and applies biophysical techniques to acupuncture. The original method was started by Dr. Voll in 1953. EDS was refined by Dr. Schimmel, M.D., D.D.S. in 1978, to its present method. Today more than 20,000 machines are in use in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Great Britain, USA and Canada.
How does it work?
The test measures changes in skin resistance at the acupuncture point in response to placing test substances (foods, airborne allergens, chemicals and special test ampoules) in the circuit with you. If you become angry the physical nature of your liver does not change, but the electrical (energetic) characteristics of your liver are affected. EDS can measure these changes. Just as the electrical QRS complex of an electrocardiogram precedes the physical heartbeat, the electrical changes in organs always precede chemical and physical abnormalities. In a 1984 controlled study of various testing for food sensitivities, Dr. J. Tsuie, M.D., compared blood, scratch, cytotoxic, food challenge and electro-dermal screening. As reported in the American Journal of Acupuncture, EDS proved to be accurate and reproducible.
What does Electro-Dermal Screening tell you?
● Identifies sensitivities and allergies to foods, chemicals, mould, dust, grasses, pollens, and pets.
● Identifies stressed organs and glands (liver, kidney, adrenals, thyroid, heart, pancreas, etc.).
● Screens for heavy metals (mercury, lead) to determine their affect on gland and organ function.
● Bio-compatibility of dental materials used in dental procedures.
● Measures the effectiveness and bio-compatibility of medicines and nutritional supplements.
How do I prepare for the test?
Drink water prior to the test (about 1 cup per hour for 3 hours before). Avoid strenuous exercise for 3 hours before testing. Please DO NOT WEAR leotards or nylon stockings (pantyhose) to the test. Your toe needs to be readily available for the testing.
